Eve Parnell – A Unique Irish Artist

When travelling by train to London recently I was again intrigued by the way we, the passengers, always try and avoid looking at each other directly, preferring the disorientating and distorted reflections of our fellow passengers in the carriage windows, or if we do pluck up courage enough to look at the person opposite it’s invariably no higher than their neck, or alternatively at their hands as they read a book or stab away at the keyboard of their laptop, as if eye contact might just be too unbearable. By looking at reflections or at hands we feel perhaps that we have more time to become something of a Camus style ‘outsider’ (an existentialist if you believe in such a philosophy), knowing full well that we are also being observed by others in a similar way. Such journeys are themselves an ever changing view of humanity.
